Traditional Tales
Over the next few weeks we are going to be looking at different fairy tale stories. We will be doing lots of fun activities to help us learn all about them and we will finish the unit with writing our own version of a fairy tale story!
We have started this week with Jack and the Beanstalk. We tried to learn the story with actions to help us.
The video will follow (as soon as Miss O'Donnell works out how to put it on!)
Today, after watching parts of this video...
...we decided to do a quick piece of writing about what happened when the beanstalk started to grow! What do you think of our writing?

The Toy Box who was naughty!
What a busy few weeks we have had! We've been learning about toys and trying to write toy poems but strange things kept happening which stopped us.
First, some of us saw some unusual things around school whilst going to our phonics lessons. We came back to class and told each other what we had seen and then we decided we wanted to investigate! We went on a toy hunt and searched and searched our school and eventually we found lots of toys with tags on.

When we took them back to class we had to sort out the tags so that we could read the message that the toys were sending us. It said 'Please help us. We are afraid of the toy box!' We all wondered why the toys might be frightened of the toy box.
We came up with lots of ideas. We all wrote our thoughts in a thought bubble.
After this, the toys escaped again. This time they were holding arrows and, when we followed these arrows, we found the toy box! He was really scary so we had to bring him back to class carefully. This is what he looks like:

We made warning signs for Mr John and the rest of the school to keep them away from him!
When we opened the toy box, we found a poem all about a naughty toy box. We liked the poem so much that we wanted to write our own. Do you like our poems?

We came up with lots of ideas. What do you think of them?
"The toy box might be dark and spooky." Aidan
"I think the toy box might have fallen over." Saoirse
"They might be afraid because when you close the lid the other toys might be scaring and touching them." Louis
"Maybe they're scared of the toy box because it's dark and rusty." Hollie
"The toys might be trapped in the toy box and some toys might glow in the dark and scare the other toys away." Macari
"It might have been too dark and the doll with glowing eyes might have looked like a zombie!" Ellie
We all wrote our thoughts in a thought bubble and we can't wait until we find out what the toy box has been doing!

The Missing Shoe!
A few weeks ago, after we had been swimming, Niamh couldn't find one of her shoes! We searched everywhere, checked all our bags and even rang another school who go swimming after us to ask if they'd seen it. We all wondered where it could be. After talking about what could have happened to the shoe, we decided to write some stories about 'The Missing Shoe'. Have a read of them and see what you think!
The
Missing Shoe
Once upon a time there was a little girl who was
called Niamh. Early one morning she woke up and went swimming. Unfortunately,
after she had got changed, she couldn’t find her shoe. She wondered where it
had gone. Little did Niamh know that, whilst she was swimming, something very
strange had happened...
An elephant stomped into the swimming baths while
Niamh was swimming. He had escaped from the zoo. He went into the pool and
thought that her shoe was food so he ate it!
Niamh had to put her P.E. shoes on to go home!

A crocodile came to eat Niamh’s shoe. They were
smelly, very smelly! The crocodile didn’t like it. Then he ate the sock. Even
that was very smelly! He burped then out popped the shoe!
Then the crocodile went back to the zoo and Niamh had
to hop home because her shoe had been chewed up.

A visitor had been. The visitor had a pointy nose
with a big green wart on it and she had a black pointy hat.She took it to her
haunted house and she tried it but it didn’t work so she put it in her potion
and then it still didn’t work. She threw it out the window, then a bird found
it in the bushes and dropped it in NIamh’s changing room.
Niamh was glad but the witch was angry!

A robber dropped from an aeroplane and, while Niamh
was swimming, he smashed through the window and he stole Niamh’s shoe. He put
it in his sack and ran away.
Niamh had to be carried home with only one shoe and
that was the end of Niamh’s shoe!

Someone left the door open at swimming and a scary shark
came in. He saw a show and he thought it was a fish. He gobbled it up! He
thought they were horrible so he went back to the sea as if nothing had
happened.
Niamh was left with one shoe and had to be carried
home!

BANG! An alien landed on the earth. He went up the
stairs at swimming and then he ate one of Niamh’s shoes. He was stuffed and too
full to eat the other one. He flew off in his space ship.
Niamh saw the space ship and wondered whether they
had her shoe. She had to put her P.E. shoes on to go home.

Both of Niamh’s shoes were magic. They could talk but
they fell out with each other. They had to find different shoes to be friends
with. She found a high heeled shoe but it wasn’t matching to her. Then she
found a wellington but that wasn’t matching either. So she thought she’d better
go back to her first shoe.
She went back and made friends with her other shoe. Niamh
had both shoes back so she was very happy.

The cleaner knocked some water over but, little did
she know, she swept the shoe away with the water and threw it in the bin. A
bird was next to the bin. The bird was a weird bird and it was purple. Before
the shoe landed in the bin, the bird caught it, took it back to Niamh and then
Niamh was happy!

Hello!
Hello everyone!
Because we are getting so good at writing in Year 1, we would like to share some of it with you. We will publish some of our best pieces of writing on this blog for you to see! This seems to be a great way to communicate with parents and the wider world. We will aim to post on here most weeks and, if we get really good at it, we might even try to put up some pictures or videos to show the world how clever we are! We hope you enjoy our work!
